Turnover at Peter Green Haulage increased by almost 30% last year.

Latest financial figures for the Somerset transport firm showed that in the year ending 31 December 2022 its turnover rose to £25.8m, an increase from £19.9m in 2021.

Gross profit also increased by 10.6% to £4.9m.

However, its pre-tax profit fell by £430,000 to £1.6m during the period.

In its strategic report for the trading period, the company said its management had focused on fleet utilisation and reducing the high fixed costs in its transport division.

Peter Green Haulage added that it was optimistic this focus, plus strengthening key partners and improving volumes would improve its results further.

The haulier listed high fixed costs, availability of labour and volatile energy markets at its key risks.

“To manage these key risks the company utilises subcontractors to deal with peak flows; continues to review ways to increase staff retention and employs effective systems to monitor operational efficiency,” it added.

The company has a licence authorising 80 HGVs operating out of two bases in Shepton Mallet and Bridgwater.
